Garmin Express only shows updates for maps pre-loaded on a device. You will only see downloadable content maps in your myGarmin account to download. If you haven't, definitely check out the FAQs posted. SUSSAMB has provided some good information in the previous replies.
I am sorry you are having trouble downloading TOPO 24K maps for Alaska.
